OVERVIEW
Nesuku is an online learning marketplace with the goal of helping passionate students meet highly qualified teachers in all different kinds of subjects and areas.
At Nesuku, I led the redesign of its search page to better help students find the right teacher in addition to other design projects.

THE CHALLENGE
Students have a hard time finding the right teacher
Nesuku users rely heavily on the search page to find teachers that match the criteria they're looking for. The current search page's limited functionality makes it impossible to filter and narrow down teachers. As a user experience designer, I explored what features and functionality could help students improve their teacher search experience and help teachers attract more potential students.
QUALITATIVE INTERVIEWS
Users want a more streamlined search experience
To understand the flaws and potential improvements of the current search page, I conducted semi-structured interviews with eight participants. Participants consists of both users and non-users of varying backgrounds and ages. Interviews typically lasted thirty minutes and were conducted virtually over Zoom.

"The search page is overwhelming and should organize things better. For example, when I was looking for a specific profile on the page, I ended up having to scroll down a long list." - Teacher Interviewee

"I want to be able to filter more than subjects...such as price points, rating, teacher availability , and more." - Student Interviewee

“The search page is not comprehensive. For example, if I click on the English subject...there are three pages of teachers (this number will increase over time), I don’t have the time to look through all of them.” - Student Parent Interviewee
COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS
What features do similar products offer?
To continue understanding its flaws and potential improvements, I conducted a comparative analysis on five competitor websites. I checked for and compared different dimensions of four major areas across competitors. The four major areas include filter options, search bar functionality, profile results, and style of loading new items.

INSIGHTS & IDEATION
Improvements for design were found in five major areas
Findings from the interviews and comparative analysis were analyzed and translated into five major design solutions related to filtering, searching, and display of profile results.

WIREFRAME
Collaboration across teams is crucial to the design process
Several wireframes were created to visualize potential layouts of the search page. These wireframes were presented across teams to communicate the design's main objectives and, most importantly, gather feedback. Subsequently, changes were applied to the wireframe and agreed upon before moving on to the initial mock-up.

INITIAL MOCK-UP
Designing the solution is a continuous iterative process
With the general structure laid out, I tackled the visual side of the solution bycreating a mock-up and experimenting with various design through several iterations.Foreach iteration (shown below), I presented my mock-up to my colleagues and made changes based on their feedback and suggestions for the next iteration.

THE SOLUTION
A clean yet effective search experience

Filter and sorting options
Filter and sort teachers based on a variety of categories and experience unique interactions for each filter.

REFLECTION
How I grew as a designer
Connect design goals to business goals.
One of the most consistent feedback I got was to keep up with Nesuku’s business goals and how they impact the research and design choices I make.
Determine the viability of a design for development.
I checked-in and presented my work to the dev team every week to make sure my designs were attainable to develop.
Value design edge cases.
I made sure to be aware of edge cases by considering multiple angles and perspectives while creating mockups and prototyping.
